Media-Saturn Greece

Media-Saturn Greece – One of the most successful launches

The Media-Saturn Group entered the Greek market in 2005 when it opened the first Media Markt store in Maroussi. Media Markt’s launch in Greece was one of the Group’s most successful market launches at the time. Within the first two years of operations, the consumer electronics chain had managed to gain a significant market share, climbing to the number two position in the consumer electronics retail sector in Greece. The Media-Saturn Group currently employs around 700 people in Greece.

Media-Saturn Greece – the road to success
By the end of 2013, the Media Markt network in Greece comprised a total of ten stores. Ten brick & mortar stores – six of them located in Athens, in the districts Maroussi, Peristeri, Rendis, Argyroupoli, Syggrou and Gerakas, three of them located in Thessaloniki, in the districts Pylaia, Stathmos and Stavroupoli, and one store in Larissa. Costomers can also shop 24 hours a day seven days a week in Media Markt’s online shop, which was launched in April 2013.

Innovative, customer oriented and extremely competitive, Media Markt continues to enhance its position on the Greek market. The range of products is huge. At Media Markt, customers will always find the latest brand name products that the consumer electronics, communications and electrical appliances industries have to offer – from flat-screen TVs to notebooks, from car navigation systems to digital cameras, from gaming consoles to fully automated coffee makers.

Media-Saturn Academy – center of learning excellence
The Media-Saturn Academy is an educational program committed to the training and development of Media-Saturn employees. It is a strategic tool designed to assist the Greek organization in achieving its goals by conducting activities that foster individual and organized learning and knowledge.

The main areas of study are leadership courses, management courses and a so-called “sales college” that focuses on store operations. At Media-Saturn all employees have access to all the information that they need regardless of what department they work in and what position they hold.

The Media-Saturn Academy also aims to develop future managers from within the company.

In close cooperation with its development centers, Media-Saturn tries to:

  • Identify future managers early in their careers
  • Give them a variety of different assignments that expand their experience and enhance their know-how
  • Coach them with the help of senior managers or external professionals
  • Provide them with the appropriate training before each critical step of their career so that when the time comes for them to move up the career ladder everyone is ready

Attention-grabbing advertising campaigns

Media Markt is known for its attention-grabbing advertising campaigns, not only in Greece but also throughout the rest of Europe. Media Markt’s advertising campaigns capture the zeitgeist of the times in each country.

In 2012, the company caught the public’s attention with a humorous and eye-catching advertising campaign. The campaign’s slogan “TZABAS is alive and only shops at Media Markt – a twist around of the famous Greek expression “Tzabas is dead” which means “nothing can be that cheap” – became very popular and found its way into the country’s slang. In 2103 the follow up of the campaign introducing Tzabas’ mother – his mentor in economy – was a successful sequel.

In 2014, Media Markt Greece rocks the waters once more, going into a totally new direction. The new campaign focuses on the Media Markt way to achieve the Tzaba (almost for free) prices. The creative idea introduces a trio of action heros, the Tzaba’s Agents, who fight expensiveness through outrageous missions. The heroes, following Charlie’s Angels style, are three dynamic girls, a drop dead beautiful blonde diva, an exotic and fabulous Martian Arts master and a chubby and funny mastermind. It’s a typical Hollywood ‘look and feel’ campaign, with great production values and a wide likeability, among the population due to its international flair. The missions always follow the typical plot “bad guy tries to force expensiveness” while the Agents, true to the brands controversial advertising footprint, find provocative ways to prevent this from happening. Slingshots made of bras and killer kisses are only some of the weapons they come up with. A strong advertising campaign that generated a lot of commotion and got all “thumbs up” from customers.

Celebrities live on stage at Media Markt
Not only local but also international celebrities such as the Scorpions visit Media Markt stores and perform live there as promotion tours that allow them to meet their fans face to face. A special radio campaign entitled “Audition” was also launched with great success. Major local celebrities from all walks of life – newscasters, sports broadcasters, actors, singers, TV presenters – “auditioned” to become “the best voice for talking about Media Markt’s unbelievable offers”. But when it came down to it, nobody was able to talk about the offers without getting overly excited.
